Ashley - My wife and I have recently gone through something similar to you guys. Last year I was laid off and unemployed for about 6 months. This was one of the most trying times of our marriage. My wife did struggle with that same thing to a degree while I searched for a new job and the main thing I can say from experience is to just realize it is that it was not by lack of performance on the job or choice that you guys are in this circumstance. Just as my wife felt resentment towards me for a bit, I felt worthless as the man of the household. It is my desire to head our household and provide for my wife and daughter, but because of the circumstance I was unable to at that time. Be strong and trust that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and that God is going to use this to strengthen you in Him. Your relationship with your husband and God will be stronger once you have gone through this and I can promise that. A great verse for me that I hold very dear is James 1:2-4. Memorize and engrave it in your heart during the tough times. Hope this helps!

My husband and I have been attending Cedarcrest Church for a few weeks now and the Living Scared series has been especially meaningful to us. Having only been married since September we have already experienced the purchase of our first home, then two back-to-back layoffs, and now unemployment. The fear I hold inside is not for the house, or the bills - none of that really matters in the long run – I am afraid that I will start to somehow resent him for having to act as the sole provider of our new family. I am sharing this very real fear (even though it is one I don’t want to admit) because I want to ask for your prayers as we try to hear God’s plans for us in our new life together, and for strength in our new marriage so we can stay strong and united in the face of any of life's troubles.

What a sentence! Fear and faith cannot exist together. I had to listen closely because I am constantly reminded light and dark cannot exist together. Isa 41:10 became my signature verse 10 years ago. I use it often when sending prayergrams. I so needed to hear the words fear and faith cannot exist together. I felt a weight had been lifted from me and realized I am maintaining a wall between God and myself when I fear but yearn to be closer to God.
